Home Stay Turkey!!
A day kayaking was a challenge especially for Vern. Kay in the front, and Vern issuing instructions from behind! with kay not responding, like his chainmen used too!! We were last!! to cross the line!! not usual for vern. It was a magic day for all that, water soo warm, swimming at our delicious picnic on the beach, and another hill climb to see more tombs in the heat. Still 35 degrees and down to 27 at night
The home stay was a wonderful experience, we headed inland to the mountains, through narrow roads. Donkeys and horses pulling the plough, orchards of apples, quinces, grapes ,now on frames absolutely laden, pommegrannets everywhere. The family we stayed with delightful, all 18 stayed , dormitary style, on squad on floor. Granma 53, G dad, little older, Mummy 32, dad ,35, daughter beautiful 11yrs, son 6yrs. All working together with this enterprise. Open fire to cook on, and a small gas oven. Everything we ate they produced except flour and sugar. We helped harvest the apples. We had lunch , dinner and breakfast, all delicious. They took us for a walk round the tracks and neighbours, and when we left, the following morning, we walked down the valley for 2 hrs, on a rough track to meet the bus.
Next stop was to walk up a narrow gorge, Saklikent. we had to cross a torrent of water , with little guys wanting to help us across, and of course wanting lira as their reward. The gorge had verticle sides 300 feet up, about 20 feet wide. Was specatular. A real comercial area.with photographers and tour companies, and restaurants, with low tables on a platform in the river.
Today away by 830am as usual, in the bus for 1/2hr, hard day, on the boat all day around 12 greek islands.swimming and we both did para sailing behind a speed boat. Lovely experience. Off for drinks with the gang, and then dinner by the river.
